1.
Prepare for launch. You are headed for Mars.
2.
Mars Expanse 01:06
The air vibrates wildly as the shutters begin to ascend. You raise a hand to cover your eyes as light bleeds into the chamber. It is time for you to see what is out there.
3.
Isolated 02:08
Tentative, you take your first steps on this new world. You walk through the crushed red sands, amidst small domed plantations and metal platings, passing towering satelite dishes and broadcast beacons. The silence here is the loudest you have ever known.
4.
You wonder how far you've come. Looking back the home base becomes nothing but a glimmer, peeking out between the shadows of the distant debris above. It is a wonder to see the universe with such brilliant lights.
5.
Further ahead you find yourself in a ravine. It is a gaping wound in this foreign land. The sands and rocks are of a deep blood red, the light growing darker as you push onwards. Towards the sky you feel as if someone is looking down at you, but you know better. It is now when you see something approaching. There is another base here.
6.
Once inside, the smell overpowers you. The metallic walls are crusted and weeping. The air is dense and unnatural. You decide to keep your helmet on.
7.
You soon discover you are not alone. There are noises of no discernable origin ringing out through the empty hallways. They are subtle, but you are no less aware of the potential danger you're in. The air becomes thicker; an elusive cloak denying entry. It is becoming harder to breathe. Something is trying to keep you away.
8.
It has seen you. It knows you are here. You do not belong. It will begin its hunt if you are not careful. Keep your lights off and your head down - do not let yourself be discovered.
9.
You slip away from the creature, unscathed from its disfigured, corrupted majesty. You are somewhere new, somewhere safe. You find this room to be a haven of exploration and mystery.
10.
Before it became tainted, this base was once a place of love. You find memories of the people who lived here, and take comfort in their warmth. There are instruments and colours and picture frames of smiling faces. You revel in the bittersweet solace of the peaceful silence before moving on.
11.
You are in an empty world now, trying to piece together the clues and uncover the truth. Papers adorn the room, tables and chairs scattered and splintered across the harsh stone ground. You are not prepared for what you find.
12.
It is here where you find them. It is here where you remember. And it is here where your heart breaks once more.
13.
Guilty Woman 02:01
It was not wise to return. It was not wise to remember. Leave. There is more for you to learn. You step out from this forgotten place and venture forth. You begin to doubt it is just the harshness of the red desert that is weighing on you.
14.
Something new has announced its presence. There are no more signs. The vastness stretches out in front of you, paralysing in its stillness. You cannot shake the feeling of being watched. It is out there, and it can see you.
15.
You find yourself haunted not only by the ghoulish remains of the earth, but by the broken troubles of your unlikely circumstance. You are the one pulling the strings. How you face them is up to you.
16.
Dead Weight 03:55
You are deeper than you should have ever gone. You begin to wonder what this new place is, and if it holds worse secrets than the ones that came before. You wonder if you truly want your answer. You step over the wrent metal and splitting rocks. This world knows you and is challenging you.
17.
A new room. It is quiet. There is a faint hum of the world outside, distant and waiting. You hear the rocks scattering across the ground, brushing up against the walls as if they were in some forsaken attempt to burrow inside. The world seems to have stopped, if only for a few short moments.
18.
Bury Her 03:02
As you look up through the grated ceiling, you have a new goal. The room flickers as the mangle passes overhead, dimly sparkling slivers of blue and red across the room. You now know what you have to do.
19.
A new threat welcomes you. It will not let you leave. You are going to be a part of the collection, becoming one with the crying chorus. Do not let it catch you.
20.
Moss Mother 05:16
You escape to the familiar emptiness of the world above. The deafening stillness that once unsettled you is now an imperative reminder of stability and conformation. It serves as an inviting clarity and corrects your doubtful thinking. You leave for your final stop. It is time to head back.
21.
You have been here before, but this time you are the one who is watching from above. From this apex you can see the crystalline towers you left behind, and it fills you with new hope that pushes you onwards. You will find your way to the other side.
22.
It is abandoned. The glass domes that once filled your mind with wonder now consume your heart with dread. No one is here to welcome you. You no longer want to think about the what and the why. You must find a way to re-establish communications.
23.
Lockstone 02:08
It is too painful to think about any longer. You just wish to be in safe hands. What is more painful: to leave behind the memories and return home alone, or to stay here amongst the rubble and let the secrets lie dormant?
24.
You decide you are content with your choices. As your finger touches the button, you are overwhelmed by a rumble so deep it splits the stars. The room begins to shake and cracks start to weave effortlessly through the glass. You close your eyes and wait for your freedom to arrive.
25.
Welcome back. How was the trip?
